With an introduction and post film discussion by Howie Movshovitz

Director Jean Vigo made only four films in his brief career – two features and two shorts -- and died before was 30 years old. Here, the captain of a cargo barge on a canal (Jean Dasté) marries a young woman (Dita Parlo) who doesn’t know what she’s getting into. A stunningly grumpy old man (Michel Simon) saves the day. Magnificent cinematography by Boris Kaufman, and one of the first great musical scores in the sound cinema by Maurice Jaubert.
