Cinema Noir Et Blanc

Overview

Seven recently restored and glorious French staples of the '30s, '40s, and '50s, curated and presented by Howie Movshovitz. January 24 - 26 at the Sie FilmCenter!

"The idea for this series comes from the lovely and smart 2016 film about French cinema by Bertrand Tavernier -- A Journey Across French Cinema. It's a gorgeous movie, and Tavernier talks about filmmakers and films that I either had not seen or had seen long ago in crummy 16mm prints. So here's a chance to see some of those movies, restored and looking terrific on a big screen. Each of the films in this series presents some aspect of French film that's too rarely available in these parts -- the films themselves, of course, but also the directors, actors, composers, writers, art directors. Plus, for myself, I will finally get to see Le Jour Se Lève on a big screen." - Howie Movshovitz
