Ingimundur won’t talk about the death of his wife in a car accident two years ago, but his actions speak far louder than words could as to the depths of his grief. Having all but abandoned his post as the police chief of his remote Icelandic village, he spends most of his time renovating the house he plans to leave his daughter’s family—including his eight- year-old granddaughter, Salka, the only person he seems comfortable around.

In fact, he’s increasingly prone to violent outbursts toward everyone else—relatives, friends, co-workers—as he begins to fixate on a long-held suspicion that his wife had been having an affair. But the road to revenge seems to lead only to his own doorstep in this disquieting family drama, set against the white-on-gray gloom of the Arctic tundra by writer/director Hlynur Pálmason (Winter Brothers, DFF40).
