Teenage Silvia keeps to herself at home and in school—until the day Artur shows up in her class. He’s a troublemaker, she knows, despite her overpowering attraction to him; he’s also, she comes to learn, a hemophiliac.

When their romance is cut short by a tragic accident, Silvia herself suddenly becomes ill—overtaken by the physical manifestations of a lovesickness that alarms her parents enough to whisk her away on an island vacation where she might heal. But she has her own cure in mind, involving not wholesome recreation or modern medicine but ancient spells, ritual sacrifices, and the power to bring Artur back to life.

Brazilian director/co-writer Alice Furtado makes an uncanny debut as a feature filmmaker with this visually mesmerizing, genre-bending tale of young love.
