At 16, Lois is a gifted physics student, but her fierce desire to become an astronaut has already been stymied due to her size: She weighs over 200 pounds (a fact she wishfully attributes to Jovian heritage). Though well-meaning, her teachers clumsily quash her dreams of space travel by informing her that only the fittest individuals are chosen for training. Her mother Jocelyne—visibly uncomfortable in her own fat body—is equally discouraging, urging Lois to accept her physique and avoid the life-threatening gastric surgeries she herself endured.

But in her loneliness and despair, Lois takes rash weight-loss actions, only to find herself confined to a hospital ward with three other damaged girls—just two days before a national science competition she's been working toward for months. French director/co-writer Marie-Sophie Chambon combines poignancy and humor in a coming-of-age drama that tracks the quartet of misfits as they strike out on the road to competition glory—and form their own tribe in the process.
