German filmmaker Volker Schlondorff, novelist Gunter Grass and screenwriter Jean-Claude Carrière combined to make this Oscar-winning film about a young boy in Germany who has an accident and stops growing at the age of three. It’s their way of talking about one dimension of what happened to Germany in the ‘30s and ‘40s.
