They say that in time all things will be revealed and that adage certainly holds true especially when discussing this lesbian cult classic. Upon its release the film was an instant smash with the ladies who found it to be a hot, accurate and loving tribute to women who love women but it came with a concern; what did two straight, cis men (writers/directors Larry and Andy Wachowski) know about lesbian love and relationships and how dare they get it right? Cut to twenty years later as the Wachowskis used the fame and fortune they garnered with their Matrix Trilogy to veer off into queer territory of their own with projects like Cloud Atlas and Sense8 and re-emerged as Lilly and Lana Wachowski, ready to take back their former works as the Wachowski Sisters they were meant to be all along!
Sparks fly when Violet (Jennifer Tilly) sets eyes on Corky (Gina Gershon) in an elevator. Violet is the girlfriend of a violent gangster, Caesar (Joe Pantoliano), while Corky is fresh out of prison and doing renovations on the apartment next door. As the two women launch into a passionate love affair, they assemble an intricate plan for Violet to escape from Caesar, with two million dollars of the mob's money -- but the important part is to make it out alive.
