Part of our "The Fourth Estate" Film + Conversation series
In 2019, the Denver Film Society will present a series of films and talks examining the state of journalism, as it intersects with changing business models, social power structures, modern technology, and governmental shifts. Join us for this unprecedented series as we screen the best in journalistic cinema, and invite industry leaders of Colorado and beyond for post-film conversations to address some of the most pressing issues facing the Fourth Estate today.

In the early 1950s, the threat of Communism created an air of paranoia in the United States. No one exploited those fears more than Senator Joseph McCarthy of Wisconsin. That is, until CBS reporter Edward R. Murrow (David Strathairn) and his producer Fred W. Friendly (George Clooney) took a stand to challenge McCarthy, risking everything in the process.

How public media can lead the way: Two of Colorado’s public media leaders, Amanda Mountain, President and CEO of Rocky Mountain Public Media, and Kevin Dale, Executive Editor of CPR News, will lead a post-film discussion about the role of audience-supported media in our evolving media landscape.

Cinematographer: Robert Elswit | Screenwriter: George Clooney, Grant Heslov
