Jason Reitman’s The Front Runner, starring Hugh Jackman, stands as one of the highlights of this year’s festival. Reitman’s look at the fall of former presidential hopeful Gary Hart is based on journalist Matt Bai’s acclaimed book All the Truth Is Out; while focusing on Hart’s tumble, both also tackle what might be called the tabloidization of political life that has rendered it incompatible with privacy. Moderator Robert Denerstein will be joined by a panel of journalists in a wide-ranging discussion of how political journalism has changed since 1987 and what those changes have meant for a public eager for news that titillates as well as informs.
