  • Overview

Given the alternatives of true love and sweet, sweet revenge, which would you choose? That’s the rub for Ernõ, a dashing rake with a vexing dilemma in this ripping Hungarian period drama from director/co-writer Gábor Herendi.

Not only did Baron Von Oettingen kill Ernõ’s father in a cold-blooded coup many years ago, he received the family estate as a reward for his services to the imperial throne. Left penniless and orphaned, the now-grown Ernõ demands justice—and he knows how to get it: at the racetrack.

True, the baron has the finest steeds in his stable; Ernõ only has Kincsem, a wild card if ever there was one. But he’s determined to groom the horse into a champion. Or he would be, if it weren’t for Klara, the love of his life—who also happens to be the baron’s daughter. Will humiliating his foe mean forfeiting his chances with her?
