  • Overview

Budapest, 1925: A terrible scandal shakes the city. Ferenc Kudelka has been slaughtered in his own abattoir, cut up, bundled into suitcases, and eventually dumped in the Danube. The players: besides the dead butcher, a prostitute, a husband, and a mysterious one-eyed man. The instigators: love, passion, carnal pleasure, money, and betrayal. Kudelka, you see, has fallen head over heels for the wife of a former gendarme—who is all too willing to assist, accepting a small amount of money in exchange for the butcher’s hours of pleasure with her. Thus the aftermath: greed and revenge, however maladroit, in this strange tale from Hungarian filmmaker János Szász.
