Like many a small-town high-school senior, Anna is bored. She inhabits the sleepy Scottish burg of Little Haven, where she dutifully attends classes, deals with her jerk of an ex-boyfriend, and tries to convince her widowed father to let her travel abroad after graduation instead of enrolling in university straight away. Also like many an adolescent, Anna loves music—and she and her pals know how to put on a show, performing song-and-dance numbers that express their ambitions and anxieties.

But when the undead suddenly descend upon Little Haven just before Christmas (many of them wearing ugly themed sweaters—a trend that cannot be slain, even with a blow to the brain), the resourceful teens must add battle cries to their repertoire, singing and slashing their way across town to rescue their loved ones. Director John McPhail’s zany, candy-colored zombie holiday musical proves that the holidays are killer indeed.

Young Bobby and Akkun stumble upon an amusement park only to discover it’s run by a deranged scientist with a terrifying ulterior agenda. Though a marvel of gekimation—a type of animation involving paper dolls—this Japanese adventure is definitely not for kids.
