While loosely adapting a Haruki Murakami short story to the big screen, South Korean filmmaker Lee Chang-dong (Poetry, DFF33) clearly had The Great Gatsby equally in mind in telling the story of Jongsu—a hapless, introverted delivery boy from a border farm with aspirations to be a writer and a crush on the flirtatious Haemi. Good news, bad news: Haemi brings him into her orbit, but it’s already occupied by another young man, her rich and mysterious boyfriend Ben (Steven Yeun, The Walking Dead). Jonsgu’s relegated to the friend zone, which borders on the servant zone.

Outclassed by his rival in every sense of the word, his jealousy is already beginning to come to a boil when Haemi goes missing—and this slow-burning romantic thriller becomes a conflagration.
