Oscar Nominee! Best Documentary Feature - 2018 Academy Awards
At 89 years old, Agnès Varda, one of the leading figures of the French New Wave, teamed up with acclaimed 33-year-old French photographer JR to co-direct this enchanting documentary-meets-road movie.
Kindred spirits, Varda and JR share a lifelong passion for images and how they are created, displayed and shared. Together they travel around the villages of France in JR’s truck meeting locals, learning their stories and producing large-scale photographic portraits of them. These images are prominently displayed on houses, barns, storefronts and trains, revealing the humanity in their subjects—and in their creators. Faces Places documents these heartwarming encounters as well as the unlikely, tender friendship the artists formed along the way.
Wednesday, February 7th, 7:20pm screening is presented by Alliance Francaise J’Adore Cine-Club. With a special introduction by Iana Dontcheva who will discuss Agnès Varda and other French female filmmakers.
Editor: Maxime Pozzi-Garcia, Agnès Varda | Cinematographer: Roberto De Angelis, Claire Duguet, Julia Fabry, Nicolas Guicheteau, Romain Le Bonniec, Raphaël Minn
