Iranian director Ali Asgari's debut drama takes place in Tehran over the course of one long winter's night. Sadaf Asgari plays Sara, a waiflike 19-year-old who is bleeding and needs medical care. At the first hospital they visit, she and her forlorn boyfriend Hamed (Amir Reza Ranjbaran) claim she has been raped. When treatment is refused because they lack proof of marital status or parental consent, the search for help becomes instead a nightmarish journey marked by pitfalls of deception, with Sara's health increasingly at risk.
With muted yet palpable outrage, the director examines the trap in which young Iranians exist, caught between the freedom of the digital age and the constraints of a society built on religious tradition.
