Fourteen protagonists share harrowing stories of their lives before Hitler rose to power and the years of Jewish persecution that followed. They vividly recount how drastically their lives changed, practically overnight: some went into exile, some survived the horrors of Auschwitz and others made significant contributions to the building of Israel. From homes around the world, they make the journey back to their hometown to meet the youth of today and share the important message that we must never let events like the ones in World War II occur again—a particularly chilling message youth amid Europe’s current climate of rising anti-Semitism and nationalism.

The Armenian genocide took place more than a century ago, but the Turkish government still denies it. Oscar-nominated documentarian Joe Berlinger movingly sheds light on the atrocity, interviewing historians and filmmakers who have been censored for examining this tragic chapter of history.
Syrian filmmaker Alfoz Tanjour weaves his personal narrative together with those of other Syrians to create this emotional documentary about the years of silence and terror under an oppressive state that led to the implosion of their homeland—and the start of their revolution.
