Overview

Based on the Jim Shepard novel Project X, Vincent Grashaw's taut, perceptive portrayal of teenage alienation stars Arman Darbo as Edwin, a withdrawn eighth-grader struggling with the humiliation of daily life as a high-school misfit.

Both his overwhelmed parents (Melanie Lynskey and Justin Long) and his vice-principal (Tony Hale) try to break through his shell to no avail. Aside from his younger brother Gus (Cannon Hicks), his only friend is Flake (Sawyer Barth), whose anger at the bullies who torment them give rise to a plot for revenge. Even as he's pressured into participating, Edwin sees signs of hope for a turnaround when an empathetic teacher recognizes his drawing skills and he joins a group project. But the stresses at home and at school continue to mount, and catastrophe begins to seem inevitable.

Director Vincent Grashaw will be in attendance for a Q&A following the 11/9 screening. Producer Laura Smith will be in attendance for all screenings.
