Overview

In the 15th century, a cold winter stretches over the Austrian Alps, where a young goatherd lives in a remote hut, traumatized by the mysterious illness and death of her mother. As the years pass and she herself becomes a mother, she gradually begins to sense a dark presence lurking in the woods surrounding her—and also deep within. But is it all just a nightmare? Where does reality end and psychosis begin?

Nearly silent yet cinematically dazzling against dramatic panoramas, this supernatural German drama from first-time writer-director Lukas Feigelfeld inhabits both an age when ancient superstitions about witchcraft held sway and a place where the threshold to the underworld seems but a step away.

Producer: Simon Lubinski, Lukas Feigelfeld | Editor: Jörg Volkmar | Cinematographer: Mariel Baqueiro | Screenwriter: Lukas Feigelfeld
