Overview

Seventeen-year-old Asher has always been a troublemaker, from grade school all the way through high school. It’s hard for him to concentrate in class, and he has anger issues that are difficult to control. Yet he is also endowed with a considerable amount of charm and innate wisdom.

So even as his strict father attempts to groom him as the heir to the family’s scaffolding business, Asher finds a different role model in his gentle literature teacher, Rami, with whom he forges a special connection and an opportunity to reimagine his future. Then a tragedy occurs that separates Asher from his mentor—and the boy must take the ultimate test of maturity to resolve his dilemma.

Israeli writer-director Matan Yair’s moving debut drama is Israel’s submission to the 2018 Academy Awards in the category of Best Foreign Language Film.
