Zahira, a poised and thoughtful Muslim woman of 18, struggles to find her identity while straddling two worlds: adolescence and adulthood, the religious tradition of her parents' native Pakistan and the secular modernity of their home in Belgium.

Between an unwanted pregnancy and the looming prospect of an arranged marriage to one of three unsuitable suitors (whom she meets only via Skype), Zahira's life has become a series of desperate decisions and impossible choices. So has that of her father, who clings to his faith despite his love for his daughter. Who will win the struggle to determine her future?

Basing his story on real-life events, director-scriptwriter Stephan Streker moves deftly through the rocky terrain, from the frigid efficiency of the healthcare system to the genuine closeness of a family in bitter turmoil. Lina El Arabi is luminous in the central role.
