Pia is an intellectually disabled 60-year-old woman living on a tranquil Danish island with her mother and caretaker, Guittou. The question hanging over them is simple and unavoidable: who will look after Pia when Guittou is no longer there? Ever-practical, Guittou wants her daughter to move into a group home with her peers, but Pia has other ideas. She will find love: she will go out into the world and find herself a man, something she has never managed to do before.
This elegiac work of docufiction from New Zealand–born filmmaker Daniel Borgman is unscripted yet sketched with great delicacy from the real lives of the main characters. These two women express their views of the world with tenderness, unadorned candor and a humor that’s disarming and, ultimately, profoundly moving.
