Overview

Australian filmmaker Rachel Perkins adapts Craig Silvey's richly textured namesake novel to create a hybrid murder mystery, coming-of-age adventure and story of adolescent romance set in small-town Western Australia.

With a geeky best friend and a secret crush on precocious Eliza, Charlie Bucktin is an ordinary kid living an ordinary life—until he receives a desperate plea for help from the local outcast, an Anglo-aboriginal kid named Jasper Jones. Jasper shows Charlie something terrible: the corpse of a girl hanging from a tree, whom he swears he didn’t kill. To make horrific matters worse, the dead girl is Eliza’s sister. Convinced of Jasper’s innocence and determined to protect him, Charlie sets out to uncover the truth—even as he finds himself falling ever more deeply in love with Eliza.
