Six-year-old Frida looks on in silence as the last objects from her recently deceased mother's apartment in Barcelona are placed in boxes. She is on her way to live in the country, where her aunt, uncle, and younger cousin Anna are welcoming her with open arms. But it's going to take time for the orphaned girl's loneliness and disorientation to subside before she can embrace her new home in turn.
Writer-director Carla Simón makes her feature debut with this quietly affecting family drama, set in sun-drenched rural Spain, that views coming of age from the perspective of a child navigating an adult world before her time.
