Join the Denver Film Society for a complete 20-film retrospective in August. Almodóvar’s signature style blends camp, irreverent humor, pop culture, fluid gender and sexuality, post-Franco political angst, vibrant colors and scenery and has stimulated art-house audiences for decades.
Almodóvar En Total is presented by DFS and organized by Keith Garcia, former DFS Programming Manager turned filmmaker and contributing writer for Westword. Special presentations throughout the series will be hosted by the Director of Film Studies at the University of Colorado Boulder, and author of “Pedro Almodóvar,” Ernesto Acevedo-Muñoz.
The series kicks off August 1 with the director’s first-and rarely screened film, Pepi, Luci, Bom (1980) and the whole series will explore four distinct phases in the director’s career:
Pedro Finds His Voice (week one)
Almodóvar’s Sexy Stride (week two)
Pedro Remembers (week three) and
Neo-Modovar (week 4), including his latest film Julieta
Individual screening tickets go on sale July 1.
