Internationally acclaimed filmmaker Cristian Mungiu (Palme d’Or winner for 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days) returns with the powerful and universal study of a devoted father who faces a tormenting moral dilemma. Discouraged by the lack of opportunities for a better life in post-Communist Romanian society, Romeo (Adrian Titieni), a decent, conscientious doctor, has dedicated himself to helping his teenage daughter Eliza (Maria Dragus) go to university in England with a scholarship. It is all arranged, but Eliza just needs to pass one last exam—a formality for such a good student. Unfortunately, this proves to be a problem, and Romeo reluctantly reaches out to try to fix it, getting himself entangled in an increasingly sticky web of corruption. He must try to explain to his idealistic daughter, who he raised to be honest, that she needs to bend the rules just this once, for a good cause. An incisive and uncompromising vision from writer/director Mungiu, Graduation is winner of the Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival.
